Eat Me – Bangkok
We have been to Eat Me in Silom many times over the past 15 years and it has never let us down. I discovered the restaurant in what I call the PG phase of life, (pre-Glen – my husband). Back then I’m pretty sure my friend and I used an actual guidebook, probably a little Wallpaper one, to plan our trips. And I tell you what, that little book was (and they still are) a gem. Every place we went and thing we tried, was exactly our vibe. But back the point of this post – the restaurant.
Eat Me serves modern Thai with a hint of Australia (the owner is Australian) and the results are fabulous. The wine list is also a highlight, with well-priced (a luxury in Thailand) great wines to choose from. On our latest visit we enjoyed a Two Hands red, which was delicious and worth every penny of the roughly $100aud a bottle.
The menu changes, but subtly over time, with some key staples not to be missed. Delightfully succulent lemon grass chicken, perfect spicy beef tartare ‘laab’ and ndjua sausage spread over crusty bread – all perfection. Our night was rounded out with a HUUUGE pavlova, and I do mean huge, but also just the perfect level of soft and crunchy.
The prices are somewhere between a casual eatery and the Michelin stared “wow” places – we paid about $500 aud including wine for 3 people. Which is a better deal that most restaurants in our hometown of Melbourne, for what we enjoyed.
Once again, Eat Me served up the perfect meal and we had to roll ourselves back to our accommodation, vowing we wouldn’t need breakfast the next day. All the while knowing, we of course would be at the table again the next morning.
